Topics

Not a Lost Cause: Why God Has Not Given Up on California

Many believers have written off the Golden State. Jonathan makes the case, from Scripture and from the Capitol, that California is a mission field and not a lost cause. Like the exiles in Babylon, Christians here are called to “seek the welfare of the city” (Jeremiah 29:7). He tells the stories of wins few people heard about, and of the ordinary Christians who made them happen.

Best for: church services, conferences, gala keynotes.

Step Into the Arena: Faith and Citizenship in a Hostile Culture

In 1910, Theodore Roosevelt said the credit belongs to the one who is actually in the arena. Jonathan brings that challenge to the church. He shows how believers can be salt and light in California’s Church, Capitol, and Culture, and how to speak the truth with grace to leaders who disagree.

Best for: pastors’ gatherings, men’s and women’s events, Christian schools and colleges.

A Calling, Not a Hobby: Building a Culture of Life After Roe

The Dobbs decision ended one battle and began another. Jonathan describes the new front lines, from abortion pills sent by mail to the quiet work of pregnancy centers. He calls the church to stand for every life, from conception to natural death.

Best for: pregnancy center banquets, pro-life rallies, Sanctity of Human Life Sunday.

Parents Are Not Bystanders: Children, Schools, and the Law

From AB 1955 in 2024 to AB 495 in 2025, California law more and more places the state between parents and their children. Jonathan explains the laws at stake, the rights parents still have, and how families can respond with courage and wisdom.

Best for: parent groups, school choice and homeschool events, church family nights.

Fair Play: Protecting Girls’ Sports and Private Spaces

When state policy lets male athletes compete in girls’ sports, girls lose places on the podium, scholarships, and privacy. Jonathan tells the story of the athletes and families who refused to stay silent, including the 20,074 Californians who petitioned the state’s high school sports body in 2025.

Best for: civic groups, women’s events, policy conferences.

What Marriage Means: God’s Design After Proposition 3

In 2024, Proposition 3 removed the definition of marriage as the union of one man and one woman from the California Constitution. Jonathan co-signed the official ballot argument against it. He explains why God’s design for marriage still matters for children and for society, and how churches can teach it with clarity and compassion.

Best for: churches, marriage and family ministries, Christian colleges.

Religious Liberty in a Deep Blue State

From church closures during the pandemic to bills aimed at Christian colleges and counselors, religious freedom in California cannot be taken for granted. Jonathan explains the threats, the wins (including the withdrawal of AB 2943 in 2018), and how churches can prepare.

Best for: pastors, church boards, legal and policy audiences.
